First Time Homebuyers

Purchasing your first home is an exciting journey. Here are some tips to help you if this is your first time out.

Owning your own home can feel like a dream. You've done all the work and now you can reap your reward. But before we get there, we need to keep a few things in mind as you prepare to make your dreams a reality.

1. It takes a team to bring you to the finish line - Your Realtor will be your main advocate and consultant throughout the process, but there are various other professionals that will help you along the way. Lenders, Escrow Officers, Inspectors, and more. Be sure to work with people that lead with service and integrity to make the path as smooth as possible.

2. Prepare for the out-of-pocket costs before you start - Most people know they will likely need to cover their down payment and closing costs for their home purchase, but did you know there are other fees to consider along the way? The earnest deposit and inspections are two things you will need to be prepared to pay before you get to the closing table. Check out my home buying glossary for more details on the earnest deposit.

3. Set a goal - Sit down and really think through what you want to achieve. It could be a certain neighborhood or price point. Or maybe it's a certain home style or number of bedrooms. Whatever is the driver for you, identify it and make a plan to achieve it.

What are some of the things you have considered before starting your home search journey?
